What to Wear Wednesday: A Nod to Mod

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are all having a great week so far! Despite working late, I had a wonderful night last night because I got to see my best friend who was in town! Chelsea and I have been best friends since we were 3 (photographic evidence here) and we have maintained our friendship despite always going to separate schools and for the past few years, living in different places. But last night we were reunited and it was fabulous. We had so much to chat about that we tried to fit in and there is something so wonderful about having so much shared history with someone. Not only do they get you, but they know all the reasons why you are that way. She is a fabulous best friend and I am so very lucky. Thankfully, this small dose of time won’t have to hold us over for as long as usual as I’ll get to see her again later in the month. Yay!

Since I knew we were doing dinner, I wanted to wear something a little fun yesterday. I picked this dress up at LOFT a month or so ago when it was on sale and finally decided to wear it. When I saw it on the hanger, I was about to pass right by it but I lingered because I loved the color. Yet it was the opposite of the dresses I usually wear- I never go for drop waist, shift dresses and usually favor a more fitted sheath style. But I decided what the heck and tried it on. I was shocked by how much I loved it and knew that I needed to get it for the very fact that I don’t own anything like it! I was able to get this dress on super sale because it technically is a sleeveless summer dress. However, I knew when I tried it on that it would look great with tights. This dress is also a petite, which I usually don’t wear but I appreciated that it made the dress slightly more fitted and a little shorter. Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to try something on even if it isn’t your usual style or size- you might end up loving it!

Dress: LOFT, Necklace: LOFT, Shoes: Target

Styling this I knew it would need a statement necklace and I chose my favorite gold one as a point of interest with the high neckline. I hadn’t originally intended to wear my hair up when I chose my outfit, but I think it totally works here and gives it a little Audrey Hepburn feel. I paired it with my tallest black wedges for a sleek line to dress it up but I also think it would be great with a pair of knee-high flat boots for a more casual look.

What to Wear Wednesday: LOFT Edition + GIVEAWAY

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a great week and have some fun plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. I’m excited to spend some time with my friends and family and have another little wine trip planned. It is a little bittersweet though because it means the end to my office’s summer Fridays, where we work half-days! Since I haven’t taken a vacation, that has signified summer, so it will be missed. But hopefully, in San Francisco, summer is just beginning! Summers are always hard in the city because as everyone else is buying cute dresses and shorts, we are bundling in coats and boots, and now as everyone is looking towards fall clothes, we are finally ready to bust out our summer clothes. But despite this odd situation, I am very excited for fall clothes- in my opinion, the best season for style.

As I mentioned, as a LOFT girl, I had the opportunity to preview and style some items from the new collection on Saturday. We did a little mini photo shoot on the Embarcadero modeling their new bold pants. You can see the images on the LOFT Facebook page, but I thought I’d share a few others here as well!

Test shot 😉

I also modeled another gorgeous outfit, but I’m waiting to share that one with you for a bit since I plan to wear the same pants for Fashion’s Night Out next week and hope to debut it then! Shop Girl

Hi lovelies! How’s your week going so far? Can you believe it’s almost Friday? I think now that Halloween is over, it’s starting to really feel like the holidays around here. There is a chill in the air (but it’s SF, so what else is new) the red cups are out and it feels like time to start shopping.

Oh wait… remember that whole, me not shopping in October thing? Well that didn’t quite work out. I actually made it half the month, shopping free, but then I went to visit my bestie in San Diego and we did what we do best- we shopped. San Diego has some great shopping, but we actually started at a store that we have in San Francisco, that I had never ventured in… Lululemon!

I’d always been slightly curious about the famous Lulu, but deemed the clothing too expensive to justify, considering I knew I could find cheaper alternatives. This was all until I put on my first pair of Wunder Unders aka the pants that changed it all. The quality is impeccable and these crops are truly the most comfortable thing ever. I kind of want to wear them all the time- plus, they look amazing on. I don’t know what crazy fabric they use, but I wouldn’t mind if all my clothes could do that!

Of course, that wasn’t the only purchase of the day, but definitely my favorite one. I’ve been doing pretty good since, until I saw that these were on sale. I have been coveting high heeled loafers since last year but have yet to find one with a perfect heel- I was after the perfect chunky heel but still with enough height. Today, I bit the bullet and ordered them online today and couldn’t be more excited for these babies to arrive. I’ll be sure to share pics!

Check out that heel... love!

The shopping will continue next week too… at my LOFT party! I hope that some of you San Francisco girls can come! There will be drinks, appetizers, music, 30% off full-price purchases, special gifts with purchase, a photo booth and more! Basically, it will be a blast and I would be so very honored if some of you could attend. (Plus for the bloggers out there, it would be a perfect blog post :)) So if you can make it, it’s Wednesday, November 16 from 5-7 at the brand new LOFT store at Embarcadero 4! If you and/or your friends would like to come, please go to loftgirlevents.com and select San Francisco and Emily from the list! I would love to meet you all and it’s the perfect excuse for a little shopping (as if you needed one!)

October Goals

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had such a wonderful weekend! The birthday celebrations continued for me with a night out and dinner with my girlfriends but since I’m sure you’re sick of reading about my birthday, I thought I’d talk about something else today! Since we are now entering October, I thought I’d get on board with what I’ve seen on some of the other blogs and write some October goals! I really like the idea of accomplishing something new every month… what an empowering idea: that each month is full of new opportunities!

1. Make exercise a priority

This is actually something that I’ve always struggled with as I’m the type that when things get too busy, I let exercise be the thing that gets edged out of my life. But this is one of the reasons that belonging to a gym is good for me, because I hate paying for something I’m not using. Yet things have been so busy and crazy in my life lately, that I still haven’t been able to make it there. Well, I’m going to commit to changing that in October. Instead of looking at exercise as the thing that I can cut out, I’m going to look at it as the necessary thing that will make my life a little better. I always feel great after exercising and it’s a time when I have to focus on something else, other than my stresses. And don’t we all need a little time doing that?

2. Make 1 new Recipe a Week

The last real recipe I followed...

I’ve mentioned that I’m not the best cook but it’s mostly for lack of trying. I actually love to bake and would love to be more adventerous when it comes to cooking. I think that sometimes it intimidates me, but this month, I’m going to look at it as an exciting chance to try some new recipes. I have so many recipes that I’ve been dying to make, so this is my chance!

3. Save money

This is NOT going to be me in October!

I’ve never been the best saver, but I’m really trying these days since I’m saving up for a specific goal. But sometimes, even with that goal in mind, I feel like I just have to get a new outfit for an occasion. This month, I’m going to focus on reworking my closet and finding new ways to wear old favorites. It might be hard now, but when I’m able to reach my goal, I’ll be much more excited then I would have been over that pair of shoes… well, that’s what I’m telling myself at least! 😉

4. Schedule phone dates/skype sessions with friends

At my bestie Chelsea's graduation a few years ago...

Recently, some of my best friends have moved away (two to DC and one to San Diego) and I haven’t had the opportunities to talk to them as much as I’d like. But since I really do miss them and miss hearing about their lives, I’m going to commit to making more of an effort in this area. Even if it’s just calling them during a walk to get lunch one day, every little bit helps. Friendships are something that require real effort and these amazing girls are worth it!

5. Work on my scrapbook!

When I came home from Europe my junior year of college, I knew that I wanted to create a scrapbook that would showcase all of my experiences. Well… I’ve been working on that scrapbook for years now. I’m hoping that in October, I can dedicate myself to working on it twice, so that I can actually get it done before I forget the stories that go along with the pictures!
