Red Carpet Round Up: Golden Globes 2015

For some people, the early winter months mean football season. They have snacks and settle in front of the television, talking to the tv as if they can be heard and have a hard time looking away. Well, that’s how I feel about award season. I too, love to sit and watch the whole event, including the red carpet pre-show. On occasion, I might find myself talking to the tv, guessing who I think should win the award that’s up for grabs. Oh, and when the boys are checking out the plays they just watched on their phones, I’m scrolling through E!’s red carpet pictures so I can get a closer look. This year, the majority of the women walking the red carpet were on point. Of course, there will always be some who manage to pull away from the pack and those who fall behind, so let’s get to it.

Best Dressed

These three women look absolutely flawless and can you believe that they are all over 40? Of course, Kate Beckinsale tops my list in her Elie Saab dress. Now Elie Saab is one of my favorite designers so it’s no surprise I loved this dress, but it’s absolutely perfection. I love that it has the right amount of sparkle, paired with the gorgeously draped, neutral skirt. I think her styling was spot on too with her neutral bag, double wrist cuffs and dark manicure. Beckinsale is one of those stars though, who consistently hits it right on the red carpet, and I’ll admit that I know her more for her red carpet looks than her movies. Amy Adams has been on a winning streak for the past few years, both on the award show stage and the red carpet. Her pale blue Versace dress, perfectly brought out her blue eyes. It was a simple style with classic styling but what made this a winner in my book was that it fit her like a dream. Now I’m not usually one for feathers on a dress, but Julianne Moore’s Givenchy Couture look worked beautifully. I absolutely loved the ombre effect and how the trailing sequins just melted into the feathers. I’m so glad that she let this very embellished dress do the talking too and opted for simple diamonds to complete the look.

Worst Dressed

Golden Globes Worst

I’d call it a very successful award show with only two stars on my worst dressed list. The first is Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang and I’m disappointed that both the actress and designer are on the list! This dress just doesn’t work as the bodice lays awkwardly in part due to the straps and the cutouts look a little odd. If you are going to go this bare, I’d suggest looking in the direction of Kate Hudson who rocked her very revealing Versace dress due to a perfect fit. For such a gorgeous, talented actress, I hope her next red carpet dresses are better. On the other end of the spectrum is Keira Knightley, wearing a very conservative dress. I’m sad to say that this dress is actually Chanel! I recognize that Kiera does tend to go for more offbeat dresses and is a Chanel spokesperson but this dress is just too much with the top and bottom made from a material resembling curtains. And I think you know how I feel about the matching butterfly on her wrist. I know that both Chanel and Keira can do much better and have high hopes for the future.

Of course, as award shows go, they can’t all be winners. But tell me, who topped your best and worst dressed lists?

Nautical and Navy

This summer, I was all about neon pink. But as the weather has gotten cooler, I’ve put my brights away and have returned to my real love, neutrals. In the past, I’ve always gravitated towards black and I’ll admit that it makes up roughly 80% of my wardrobe. Yet lately, I’ve found myself buying lots of navy, a color that I never used to wear. With more navy skirts and dresses in my closet and the drop in temperatures, I was on the hunt for a navy coat to pair with it all. That’s when the company eShakti reached out and asked if I would like to try one of their items. When I spotted their navy cotton sateen belted trench, I knew it was meant to be. The awesome thing about the company is that their clothing can all be customized and made to your measurements. If you’ve ever experienced the high of online shopping and the low of discovering that what you ordered, doesn’t indeed fit, then this company is for you. It truly takes all the guesswork out so when it arrives, you know it will look great. For my coat, I chose to keep the sleeves the standard length, but if you are petite and sleeves are often long on you, then that can be changed. I did customize the length to the “mini” length, as I knew that I wanted a coat that would be long enough to wear with dresses, but would also work well with pants. When it arrived it fit perfectly and I was so pleased to find that the coat is a medium weight which is ideal for California winters. I have to admit, that after this experience I’m totally sold on custom clothing. If you are stumped with what to get for a woman in your life this holiday season, I think a gift card for eShakti would be an amazing gift. And if you’re like me, you might find a few things you have to buy for yourself too…

What to Wear Wednesday: Neon and Neutrals

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are all having a lovely week so far! I woke up this morning and swore it was Thursday so I’m having a bit of a difficult time adjusting. Hopefully as the day goes on I’ll get more acquainted with the right day of the week 😉 Of course I’m already looking forward to the weekend where I plan to do a little shopping! With my brother’s wedding right around the corner, I need to get shoes to go with bridesmaids dress and a dress for the rehearsal dinner! Finding the perfect dress for the rehearsal is proving slightly difficult as it needs to be conservative enough to wear in the church but still fun and cocktail appropriate! If anyone has suggestions, I’m all ears!

In the meantime though, I thought I’d fill you in on the details of the dress I wore to the most recent bridal shower. In addition to celebrating my brother’s beautiful bride-to-be, I have loved finding the perfect feminine dresses for the bridal showers. For this one, I turned to LOFT who never lets me down. I spotted this dress online actually and was immediately lusting after it but when I saw it in person, I knew it had to be mine. To make matters even better, they were having a 40% off sale that day (LOFT always has amazing sales) so the dress was in my hot little hands immediately after entering the store. What I loved so much about the dress is that it combines neutrals with the neon pink for an unexpected pop. In fact, I love this combo so much that I foresee creating it in future outfits as well!

Golden Globes Fashion and Pumpkin Chili

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a lovely weekend and had a fun time with your friends and family. I’ve been promising you recipes on GGG for a while now and today I’m finally delivering! I first made this pumpkin chili last week with my friends for an impromptu dinner party and it was a hit. Well last night I decided to make a batch again to enjoy while watching the Golden Globes and made a few changes that made it even better. But before we talk chili, I’ve got to talk fashion for a bit. Did any of you watch the Golden Globes last night? I always enjoy awards shows but I’ll admit, mostly for the fashion. “Who are you wearing” is the question I really care about during the evening and last night there were some definite hits and misses.

The Hits:

These women didn’t take any huge fashion risks with their dresses but I think they all looked absolutely gorgeous. They defined classic elegance with simple silhouettes and classic colors. My favorite of these four looks though was definitely Kate Hudson. Not only does the woman seem to be aging backward, but her look was spot on for me in this fantastic Alexander McQueen dress. I also have to give a shoutout to Jennifer Lawrence as well who looked stunning in her coral dress- definitely my favorite red carpet look that she’s worn this season.

The Misses:

Oh dear, where to begin. First of all, I think Jessica Chastain seems like a wonderful person and is a fantastic actress. But if I were her, I’d fire my stylist immediately. Her dress did nothing for her and I really wished someone would have fit that halter properly. But my real issue with the look was her hair- her hair stylist managed to age her and make her look as though she was balding. Poor Jess. I hesitated putting Lena Dunham on here because she really isn’t known for being a fashion plate, so I don’t generally expect to much from her. But- this dress was just bad. Next up, this dress was all wrong for the petite Julianne Hough and with such a pretty bodice, I wish this would have flowed into a more form fitting gown. Instead, it looks a little like a wedding dress gone bad. But hey, maybe this was her way of  signaling to Ryan Seacrest to put a ring on it. Lastly, Debra Messing. She has a great figure as well but this dress didn’t do her any favors with the parachute fabric on the bottom. I could have overlooked the dress though if it weren’t for the styling. The huge bangles on both wrists plus large earrings and a large dress, there was just way too much going on.

Now enough with the fashion, let’s talk food!
