October Goals

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had such a wonderful weekend! The birthday celebrations continued for me with a night out and dinner with my girlfriends but since I’m sure you’re sick of reading about my birthday, I thought I’d talk about something else today! Since we are now entering October, I thought I’d get on board with what I’ve seen on some of the other blogs and write some October goals! I really like the idea of accomplishing something new every month… what an empowering idea: that each month is full of new opportunities!

1. Make exercise a priority

This is actually something that I’ve always struggled with as I’m the type that when things get too busy, I let exercise be the thing that gets edged out of my life. But this is one of the reasons that belonging to a gym is good for me, because I hate paying for something I’m not using. Yet things have been so busy and crazy in my life lately, that I still haven’t been able to make it there. Well, I’m going to commit to changing that in October. Instead of looking at exercise as the thing that I can cut out, I’m going to look at it as the necessary thing that will make my life a little better. I always feel great after exercising and it’s a time when I have to focus on something else, other than my stresses. And don’t we all need a little time doing that?

2. Make 1 new Recipe a Week

The last real recipe I followed...

I’ve mentioned that I’m not the best cook but it’s mostly for lack of trying. I actually love to bake and would love to be more adventerous when it comes to cooking. I think that sometimes it intimidates me, but this month, I’m going to look at it as an exciting chance to try some new recipes. I have so many recipes that I’ve been dying to make, so this is my chance!

3. Save money

This is NOT going to be me in October!

I’ve never been the best saver, but I’m really trying these days since I’m saving up for a specific goal. But sometimes, even with that goal in mind, I feel like I just have to get a new outfit for an occasion. This month, I’m going to focus on reworking my closet and finding new ways to wear old favorites. It might be hard now, but when I’m able to reach my goal, I’ll be much more excited then I would have been over that pair of shoes… well, that’s what I’m telling myself at least! ๐Ÿ˜‰

4. Schedule phone dates/skype sessions with friends

At my bestie Chelsea's graduation a few years ago...

Recently, some of my best friends have moved away (two to DC and one to San Diego) and I haven’t had the opportunities to talk to them as much as I’d like. But since I really do miss them and miss hearing about their lives, I’m going to commit to making more of an effort in this area. Even if it’s just calling them during a walk to get lunch one day, every little bit helps. Friendships are something that require real effort and these amazing girls are worth it!

5. Work on my scrapbook!

When I came home from Europe my junior year of college, I knew that I wanted to create a scrapbook that would showcase all of my experiences. Well… I’ve been working on that scrapbook for years now. I’m hoping that in October, I can dedicate myself to working on it twice, so that I can actually get it done before I forget the stories that go along with the pictures!

  1. All of these goals apply to me too! (except the scrapbook– I don’t have one of those haha)

For me though, the gym needs to become MORE of something that I can cut out, and I’m working on that right now. The past 2 years of my life were spent working out unhealthily whenever I had any kind of tough situation in life, a I learned to turn to exercise as an outlet. It sounds like a positive thing, but when you start replacing social gatherings with going to the gym on a regular basis, there’s a problem :/

So I guess this would be an ongoing October goal for me. I’m still working on it!

  2. Great and thought provoking goals! ….The calling/skyping with friends is exactly what I need to do this month! (consider yourself an inspiration!) I always worry that I’ll be bothering them but I need to suck it up and call them, I won’t be bothering them! ….Great goals!!

  3. Those are terrific goals! The shopping part is so tough, especially with fall clothes in stores now! I’m really going to focus on saving $$ too… It’ll be helpful when Christmas shopping rolls around! Goals on my list: clean and reorganize/declutter my closet and room! I started yesterday and I’m about 30% finished!

  4. Great goals Emily! I need to save up for a specific goal too!! And of course start working out! I have an easy at home workout you could do that I found on Pinterest! I started yesterday and its really quick…something I can do right when I get home from work! Oh, another goal you should make is ‘get a pinterest’ account! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Great goals to have! One of my goals is to try new meal “ideas” (I usually just create meals based on what we have in the house!) 2-3 times a week.

Oh yeah and the money saving… maybe in November once I have a fully functioning fall wardrobe? ๐Ÿ™‚ It IS raining afterall and I did NEED those Hunter boots… ๐Ÿ˜‰
