What to Wear Wednesday: A Nod to Mod

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are all having a great week so far! Despite working late, I had a wonderful night last night because I got to see my best friend who was in town! Chelsea and I have been best friends since we were 3 (photographic evidence here) and we have maintained our friendship despite always going to separate schools and for the past few years, living in different places. But last night we were reunited and it was fabulous. We had so much to chat about that we tried to fit in and there is something so wonderful about having so much shared history with someone. Not only do they get you, but they know all the reasons why you are that way. She is a fabulous best friend and I am so very lucky. Thankfully, this small dose of time won’t have to hold us over for as long as usual as I’ll get to see her again later in the month. Yay!

Since I knew we were doing dinner, I wanted to wear something a little fun yesterday. I picked this dress up at LOFT a month or so ago when it was on sale and finally decided to wear it. When I saw it on the hanger, I was about to pass right by it but I lingered because I loved the color. Yet it was the opposite of the dresses I usually wear- I never go for drop waist, shift dresses and usually favor a more fitted sheath style. But I decided what the heck and tried it on. I was shocked by how much I loved it and knew that I needed to get it for the very fact that I don’t own anything like it! I was able to get this dress on super sale because it technically is a sleeveless summer dress. However, I knew when I tried it on that it would look great with tights. This dress is also a petite, which I usually don’t wear but I appreciated that it made the dress slightly more fitted and a little shorter. Moral of the story? Don’t be afraid to try something on even if it isn’t your usual style or size- you might end up loving it!

Dress: LOFT, Necklace: LOFT, Shoes: Target

Styling this I knew it would need a statement necklace and I chose my favorite gold one as a point of interest with the high neckline. I hadn’t originally intended to wear my hair up when I chose my outfit, but I think it totally works here and gives it a little Audrey Hepburn feel. I paired it with my tallest black wedges for a sleek line to dress it up but I also think it would be great with a pair of knee-high flat boots for a more casual look.

What to Wear Wednesday: LOFT Edition + GIVEAWAY

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a great week and have some fun plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. I’m excited to spend some time with my friends and family and have another little wine trip planned. It is a little bittersweet though because it means the end to my office’s summer Fridays, where we work half-days! Since I haven’t taken a vacation, that has signified summer, so it will be missed. But hopefully, in San Francisco, summer is just beginning! Summers are always hard in the city because as everyone else is buying cute dresses and shorts, we are bundling in coats and boots, and now as everyone is looking towards fall clothes, we are finally ready to bust out our summer clothes. But despite this odd situation, I am very excited for fall clothes- in my opinion, the best season for style.

As I mentioned, as a LOFT girl, I had the opportunity to preview and style some items from the new collection on Saturday. We did a little mini photo shoot on the Embarcadero modeling their new bold pants. You can see the images on the LOFT Facebook page, but I thought I’d share a few others here as well!

Test shot ;)

I also modeled another gorgeous outfit, but I’m waiting to share that one with you for a bit since I plan to wear the same pants for Fashion’s Night Out next week and hope to debut it then! Shop Girl

Hi lovelies! How’s your week going so far? Can you believe it’s almost Friday? I think now that Halloween is over, it’s starting to really feel like the holidays around here. There is a chill in the air (but it’s SF, so what else is new) the red cups are out and it feels like time to start shopping.

Oh wait… remember that whole, me not shopping in October thing? Well that didn’t quite work out. I actually made it half the month, shopping free, but then I went to visit my bestie in San Diego and we did what we do best- we shopped. San Diego has some great shopping, but we actually started at a store that we have in San Francisco, that I had never ventured in… Lululemon!

I’d always been slightly curious about the famous Lulu, but deemed the clothing too expensive to justify, considering I knew I could find cheaper alternatives. This was all until I put on my first pair of Wunder Unders aka the pants that changed it all. The quality is impeccable and these crops are truly the most comfortable thing ever. I kind of want to wear them all the time- plus, they look amazing on. I don’t know what crazy fabric they use, but I wouldn’t mind if all my clothes could do that!

Of course, that wasn’t the only purchase of the day, but definitely my favorite one. I’ve been doing pretty good since, until I saw that these were on sale. I have been coveting high heeled loafers since last year but have yet to find one with a perfect heel- I was after the perfect chunky heel but still with enough height. Today, I bit the bullet and ordered them online today and couldn’t be more excited for these babies to arrive. I’ll be sure to share pics!

Check out that heel... love!

The shopping will continue next week too… at my LOFT party! I hope that some of you San Francisco girls can come! There will be drinks, appetizers, music, 30% off full-price purchases, special gifts with purchase, a photo booth and more! Basically, it will be a blast and I would be so very honored if some of you could attend. (Plus for the bloggers out there, it would be a perfect blog post :)) So if you can make it, it’s Wednesday, November 16 from 5-7 at the brand new LOFT store at Embarcadero 4! If you and/or your friends would like to come, please go to loftgirlevents.com and select San Francisco and Emily from the list! I would love to meet you all and it’s the perfect excuse for a little shopping (as if you needed one!)

October Goals

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had such a wonderful weekend! The birthday celebrations continued for me with a night out and dinner with my girlfriends but since I’m sure you’re sick of reading about my birthday, I thought I’d talk about something else today! Since we are now entering October, I thought I’d get on board with what I’ve seen on some of the other blogs and write some October goals! I really like the idea of accomplishing something new every month… what an empowering idea: that each month is full of new opportunities!

1. Make exercise a priority

This is actually something that I’ve always struggled with as I’m the type that when things get too busy, I let exercise be the thing that gets edged out of my life. But this is one of the reasons that belonging to a gym is good for me, because I hate paying for something I’m not using. Yet things have been so busy and crazy in my life lately, that I still haven’t been able to make it there. Well, I’m going to commit to changing that in October. Instead of looking at exercise as the thing that I can cut out, I’m going to look at it as the necessary thing that will make my life a little better. I always feel great after exercising and it’s a time when I have to focus on something else, other than my stresses. And don’t we all need a little time doing that?

2. Make 1 new Recipe a Week

The last real recipe I followed...

I’ve mentioned that I’m not the best cook but it’s mostly for lack of trying. I actually love to bake and would love to be more adventerous when it comes to cooking. I think that sometimes it intimidates me, but this month, I’m going to look at it as an exciting chance to try some new recipes. I have so many recipes that I’ve been dying to make, so this is my chance!

3. Save money

This is NOT going to be me in October!

I’ve never been the best saver, but I’m really trying these days since I’m saving up for a specific goal. But sometimes, even with that goal in mind, I feel like I just have to get a new outfit for an occasion. This month, I’m going to focus on reworking my closet and finding new ways to wear old favorites. It might be hard now, but when I’m able to reach my goal, I’ll be much more excited then I would have been over that pair of shoes… well, that’s what I’m telling myself at least! ;)

4. Schedule phone dates/skype sessions with friends

At my bestie Chelsea's graduation a few years ago...

Recently, some of my best friends have moved away (two to DC and one to San Diego) and I haven’t had the opportunities to talk to them as much as I’d like. But since I really do miss them and miss hearing about their lives, I’m going to commit to making more of an effort in this area. Even if it’s just calling them during a walk to get lunch one day, every little bit helps. Friendships are something that require real effort and these amazing girls are worth it!

5. Work on my scrapbook!

When I came home from Europe my junior year of college, I knew that I wanted to create a scrapbook that would showcase all of my experiences. Well… I’ve been working on that scrapbook for years now. I’m hoping that in October, I can dedicate myself to working on it twice, so that I can actually get it done before I forget the stories that go along with the pictures!

Fave 5 Friday

Hi lovelies! Happy, happy Friday! This has been a really busy week work wise so I’m definitely ready for a restful, fun weekend! I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and take some time to relax and enjoy the company of your friends and family! And now it’s time for 5 things I’m loving this week!

1. Summer in San Francisco!

Even an iphone was able to capture this beauty!

The well known quote by Marc Twain goes, “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.” Well, it’s true. San Francisco summers are notoriously cold which was a bit of a shock for me coming from LA and Sacramento. I used to walk around sans jacket in the city over the summer and soon realized that a light jacket is essential for San Francisco living. But now our time has finally come and we are experiencing some beautiful weather here! So while everyone in the blog world is talking about Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I’m finally ready for some iced coffee!

2. New Lady Antebellum cd!

I’ve mentioned before, my tendency to listen to the same music over and over again, which has happened to me again recently. But when I scrolled through iTunes, I found that Lady Antebellum had come out with a new cd! I love the sound of Lady A, but do not love the song that they are most known for- Need You Now, after it got way, way overplayed. Their new cd on the other hand is great and I’m excited to have some new music!

3. Fall TV is Back!

This year, I did get sucked into the Bachelor Pad, but let’s face it, usually summer shows are just not that good. But I love fall tv premier season when all my favorite shows come back! I’ll admit that I’m really excited about the return of Glee, Modern Family, The Good Wife and my CW guilty pleasures, Gossip Girl and 90210. I may also have gotten hooked on Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family. Don’t judge me, it’s addicting.

4. Stacked Heel Boots!

Though I’m loving summer, I can’t help but be excited about fall fashion! One of my fall must haves is a perfect pair of boots. While I can usually be found in a 5 inch stilleto, I am finding myself very attracted to thicker, stacked heels! I think if I can find the right pair, they will be perfect with pants, skirts and sweater dresses! I’m officially on the hunt now so when Piperlime sent out this email today, it was kismet!

5. Mother’s Frosted Circus Animal Cookies!

These were always my mom’s favorite cookies growing up and since they were appropriately girly, they quickly became mine. Last weekend they were brought back into my life when my Grandma put out a whole spread of these cookies and my favorite candy (peanut m&ms) for something to ‘munch’ on when I visited her house! Needless to say, she sent them home with me and I have been enjoying my favorite little cookies and feel like a kid again!

A Fashionable Weekend

Hi lovelies! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! Did you guys watch the Emmys last night? I caught them a little late (I had no idea they started so early!) but was excited to see Julianna Margulies win for the Good Wife and Modern Family win! But of course, my favorite part is really the fashion! Some of my favorites…

Sofia Vergara…

Love the melon color with her skin tone and this gorgeous actress knows how to dress for her curves!

 Nina Dobrev…

Wow... red carpet glam personified

 and Minka Kelly

Love Minka's Dior lace dress and so on-trend for Fall!

Fashion also played a role in my weekend because on Friday, I went with the girls to a Sample Sale event. My friend Katie and I met up on the Embarcadero and began looking for a cab to take us up the Marina. When we couldn’t find one, a young pedi cab driver came up to us and asked if we wanted a ride. I declined because usually they are very expensive not to mention going up to the Marina involves at least one very large hill! Well he was really nice and said he would take us for whatever we wanted to pay, so we went on a little adventure.

Turns out, it was a really fun experience! From the Marina we walked over to Fort Mason where the event was held and stumbled upon something miraculous…

Off the Grid is a weekly event held at Fort Mason where tons of food trucks and small vendors come together on Friday nights for an eating extravaganza! Though we were all ready to go to the shopping event, we decided to make a little pit stop first. We were tempted by quite a few vendors but eventually decided on something that none of us had ever had… Peruvian food!

We ate at the Sanguchon Peruvian Food Truck and opted for sandwiches. We expected appetizer portions but these were so huge they ended up being out dinner! The girls went for their specialty-Pan con Chicharron but since I don’t eat pork, I went for the chicken sandwich that had rice and potatoes in it with a delicious sauce. It was messy but oh so good. After our fingers became numb from the cold, we decided it was time to go into the event.

Unfortunately, the event itself was kind a of a let down. The vendors were selling things that we just didn’t care to buy. But since they were doing free hair and make up, we thought why not and got our hair done for the night.

Curls, curls and more curls...

Though none of us were too excited with our “new looks,” we still had a fun time together. When you are with a good group of girls, even those nights that are kind of a bust still turn out fun!

-What was your favorite Emmys dress?

-Have you ever had Peruvian food? Or eaten at a food truck?

(Also, apologies if all of my pictures aren’t showing up… it seems that wordpress is being finicky, but if you reload the page, hopefully they will all appear!)

Fave 5 Friday

Hi lovelies! Woohoo, it’s Friday! Although this has been a short week, it’s been a busy one, so I’m happy it’s officially the weekend. Today it’s time for another Fave 5 Friday post! If you are missing your dose of Take 5, head over to Nourish and Flourish to read about the amazing WeFeedBack program. And now for 5 things I’m loving this week…

1. My First Giants Game!

Tonight I am going to my very first Giants game! I’ve actually never been to a major league baseball game before so this will be a new experience for me. In the past, I’ve always looked at sporting events as an opportunity to socialize but now… well, let’s face it, that’s exactly what I’m looking at tonight as too. I am however, excited to take part in some SF pride, cheer on our home team and hopefully go out after to celebrate a victory!

2. Starbucks Iced Passion Tea!

My mom got me started on the iced passion tea from Starbucks and I can officially say that I am hooked! I know these have been around for a while but I’m just now jumping on board because I’ve never been much a tea drinker. These however, were a game changer and remind me of how when I first tried tart yogurt I didn’t like it but the more I had it, the more I grew addicted to it! Same goes for the tea! My summer go-to drink is a venti iced unsweetened passion tea with 2 Splenda for the perfect sweet/tart combination!

3. Revlon Top Speed Nail Polish!

I know this looks awkward... it was my attempt at making the polishes look pretty?

I tend to paint my nails right after I finish blogging at around 12 am., that way, I can ensure that my nails will not be chipped by the next day. But sometimes, I fall asleep before they are completely dry and the dreaded sheet marks on the nails occurs. After a few too many times of waking up with smudged nails, I decided to branch out my polish choices and fell in love with Revlon Top speed polishes. Not only are they cheaper than most other brands (under $4) but they have fun colors and most importantly, dry quickly. I love the Sheer Cotton, a white-ish pink and Jaded, a seafoam green.

4. Fashion’s Night Out!

Last night I attended San Francisco’s Fashion’s Night Out with a few new girlfriends! This event was started by Vogue a few years back to boost the economy by getting people back to the stores to go shopping! It has now transformed into a fashion filled night with stores offering amazing perks and promotions. The girls and I hit a bunch of stores, sipped some free champagne and even got the chance to meet some fashion bloggers like Blair from Atlantic Pacific and Anh from 9 to 5 Chic. Both women were not only gorgeous and stylish but they were so sweet and fun to talk to. It was such a wonderful night and I had so much fun with my new friends!

5. Bloggers Enjoying Rest Days!

This week alone, I talked about needing rest days and so did Clare and Brittany!  I think that sometimes our community gets a bad wrap when it comes to appropriate exercise levels so I think it’s wonderful to see so many bloggers speaking out to validate that rest days are good for your and important. Sometimes, no matter what you want to do, listening to your body is what you need to do and I’m proud of us all for making such good decisions!
