What to Wear Wednesday: LOFT Edition + GIVEAWAY

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a great week and have some fun plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. I’m excited to spend some time with my friends and family and have another little wine trip planned. It is a little bittersweet though because it means the end to my office’s summer Fridays, where we work half-days! Since I haven’t taken a vacation, that has signified summer, so it will be missed. But hopefully, in San Francisco, summer is just beginning! Summers are always hard in the city because as everyone else is buying cute dresses and shorts, we are bundling in coats and boots, and now as everyone is looking towards fall clothes, we are finally ready to bust out our summer clothes. But despite this odd situation, I am very excited for fall clothes- in my opinion, the best season for style.

As I mentioned, as a LOFT girl, I had the opportunity to preview and style some items from the new collection on Saturday. We did a little mini photo shoot on the Embarcadero modeling their new bold pants. You can see the images on the LOFT Facebook page, but I thought I’d share a few others here as well!

I also modeled another gorgeous outfit, but I’m waiting to share that one with you for a bit since I plan to wear the same pants for Fashion’s Night Out next week and hope to debut it then! (But if you check out the Facebook page you can get a sneak peek.) If you’d like to see some of my other picks for the season, check out LOFT’s Pinterest page.

The Secret’s Out

Hi lovelies!! Happy Friday! I hope that you have all had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend ahead! I know that I am!

Do you remember when I went to New York and told you guys that I couldn’t yet reveal the purpose of my trip? Well despite staying at the Empire Hotel, I wasn’t there for a walk-on role with Gossip Girl (though that would have been awesome!) Instead, I was there for an even more amazing purpose- a photo shoot for LOFT! If you recall, I did one for their Live Like a Loft Girl promotion before, but this shoot was for their new denim guide! I’m so honored and lucky to be a LOFT Girl and featured in this campaign so I wanted to share it with you all!

(Click on the photos below and they will take you to them live on the site!)

I can't link to this image, but if you'd like to check out my bio just click one of the other images and then go to "Meet Our Loft Girls"

If you haven’t yet tried LOFT denim, I can’t recommend it enough. I bought my first pair of LOFT jeans a few years ago and have been buying it ever since! It’s affordable (unlike the designer denim I used to buy), comes in so many different washes and the fit is amazing!

Questions:

-Tell me about your favorite pair of jeans! What makes them perfect?

Relationship Status: It’s Complicated

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a great weekend! I had an absolutely AMAZING one at the National Ice Skating Championships. It was truly an incredible experience and I am now officially an ice skating groupie. All weekend I battled a headache but Sunday night it took an ugly turn into a migraine on Monday. Luckily, after a day of rest and migraine meds I’m feeling much better.

But now on to other matters… you see, I have a bit of complicated relationship on my hands. There are some relationships in life where the attraction is instantaneous and others that require additional thought. And my relationship with horizontal stripes is the latter. For years I found myself attracted to horizontal stripes clothing, while also being afraid that it would be unflattering. Then one day, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot.. and realized that I liked what I saw! But now that we’re official (it’s not love… yet) I’ve learned a few things along the way.

1. Stripes are an ideal layering piece!

Hat: Nordstrom, Vest: LOFT, Shirt: H&M

Although the Breton striped shirt looks so classic on its own, I recently have been looking at stripes as a great layering piece, almost like a neutral. They transition seamlessly between seasons and look as great with a fur vest as a floral scarf as a statement necklace. Plus, all of these items transform the look from your basic striped shirt into something a little more special.

2. Play with proportion!

Sweater: Nordstrom, Pants: GAP

I fell in love with this striped, open-knit sweater the moment I saw it and knew it would be perfect for my trip to San Diego. But horizontal stripes on an oversize sweater with dolman sleeves? Yikes, right? Wrong! Instead of being scared by the volume of the sweater, I wore tight black pants and black boots. When dealing with a blousy or loose striped item, wearing a fitted top or bottom balances you out.

3. Use stripes to colorblock!

All items are LOFT

At my recent LOFT event, I decided to work some stripes into my outfit as a way to colorblock. Thick stripes like the ones I’m wearing are already a great example of colorblocking, so I added a bright pink berry sweater to make them pop. Colorful stripes are also a great way to transition to spring-ier clothes while still experiencing winter weather!

As you can see, I’m coming around to stripes and I think our relationship is blossoming. But one relationship that isn’t in any danger? My love affair with San Francisco:

GGG Restaurant Review: Txoko

Hi lovelies! I’m so excited to share that I got to visit the new LOFT store last night and it is gorgeous! Tomorrow is going to be so much fun and I hope that some of you can join me for my party at the San Francisco store! If you’d like to come, please rsvp at: loftgirlevents.com and please be sure to come up and introduce yourself!

Last week, my friend Katie and I decided to check out Txoko, a new-ish restaurant in North Beach in San Francisco. Though North Beach is the Italian district, I have found that some of my favorite restaurants there are the non-Italian ones, so when I heard about Txoko, a Basque restaurant, I knew I had to try it.

After finally finding the restaurant (scaffolding and the fact that it was nestled between some less than nice establishments made it hard to find) we settled in and were excited to spend the evening eating good food and catching up.

The menu was divided in 3 sections- small bites (1-2 bites), small plates (appetizer portion) and big plates. I have to admit that the menu was a little out there for me but since I’m working on trying new foods, I looked at as a growing experience. Plus, throw in a glass of wine and a girlfriend and I’m game! :)

We started with the Txiki cheese plate that was served with a roasted carrot salad, frisee and pine nuts. The cheese was similar in texture to my favorite Manchengo, but with a slightly less strong flavor. It was delicious on warm crusty bread and my only complaint was that there wasn’t more!

We then moved on to small bites and had the Wood Oven Roasted Piquillo Peppers with chevre, roasted garlic and marinated piquillo peppers, Local Squid A La Plancha with black olive, potatoes, pimenton, spinach and the Mushroom Empanada with Hen of the Woods (a mushroom), Chanterelle, Sweet Onions, Manchego and Rosemary. I enjoyed all three dishes (even the squid!) but the standout was by far the mushroom empanada in a flaky crust with the most delicious mushroom filling.

Then it was onto the small plates! Although the above were delicious, we both were ready for some bigger bites! We selected the Radicchio A La Plancha with persimmon, ricotta, spinach, almonds and sherry vinaigrette. I had no idea that I even liked pomegranate seeds or persimmons until I tasted this salad but I am now a fan of both! It was refreshing while still being fall-like and the perfect main course.

And then because the waitress informed us that we needed at least one filling dish, we went for the Caulifower Arroz with shishito peppers, Hen of the Woods and Chanterelles. Oh my gosh, was this amazing! It had a risotto like consistency and was creamy but not overpowering…. and I couldn’t even taste the caulifower!

All in all, the food was great but the company was what made the meal! I really enjoyed Txoko, but with so many great restaurants to try in SF, it’s hard to go back to the same one twice! As you can tell, we went mostly Vegetarian for our meal, but if you are a meat eater/more adventurous, there are many more options! I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, different kind of meal and a new experience!

Questions:

-Have you ever had Basque food?

-What would you have ordered?

-What’s a food that you were surprised to find that you liked?

Shop Girl

Hi lovelies! How’s your week going so far? Can you believe it’s almost Friday? I think now that Halloween is over, it’s starting to really feel like the holidays around here. There is a chill in the air (but it’s SF, so what else is new) the red cups are out and it feels like time to start shopping.

Oh wait… remember that whole, me not shopping in October thing? Well that didn’t quite work out. I actually made it half the month, shopping free, but then I went to visit my bestie in San Diego and we did what we do best- we shopped. San Diego has some great shopping, but we actually started at a store that we have in San Francisco, that I had never ventured in… Lululemon!

I’d always been slightly curious about the famous Lulu, but deemed the clothing too expensive to justify, considering I knew I could find cheaper alternatives. This was all until I put on my first pair of Wunder Unders aka the pants that changed it all. The quality is impeccable and these crops are truly the most comfortable thing ever. I kind of want to wear them all the time- plus, they look amazing on. I don’t know what crazy fabric they use, but I wouldn’t mind if all my clothes could do that!

Of course, that wasn’t the only purchase of the day, but definitely my favorite one. I’ve been doing pretty good since, until I saw that these were on sale. I have been coveting high heeled loafers since last year but have yet to find one with a perfect heel- I was after the perfect chunky heel but still with enough height. Today, I bit the bullet and ordered them online today and couldn’t be more excited for these babies to arrive. I’ll be sure to share pics!

Check out that heel... love!

The shopping will continue next week too… at my LOFT party! I hope that some of you San Francisco girls can come! There will be drinks, appetizers, music, 30% off full-price purchases, special gifts with purchase, a photo booth and more! Basically, it will be a blast and I would be so very honored if some of you could attend. (Plus for the bloggers out there, it would be a perfect blog post :)) So if you can make it, it’s Wednesday, November 16 from 5-7 at the brand new LOFT store at Embarcadero 4! If you and/or your friends would like to come, please go to loftgirlevents.com and select San Francisco and Emily from the list! I would love to meet you all and it’s the perfect excuse for a little shopping (as if you needed one!)

Questions:

-Where do you buy exercise clothes?

-Are you an online shopper?

November Happenings

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful Halloween! Can you guys believe that it is already November? Where has the time gone?! October has been kind of a crazy month in GGG land… there have been some highs and lows and my blog has kind of gotten pushed aside. I’m really hoping that this all changes in November and in honor of a new month and season (it’s starting to feel like Fall in SF) I thought I’d do a list of things that I’m excited about in November!

1. Foodbuzz is coming to SF!

This weekend, bloggers are taking over my city for Foodbuzz fest! Since I’m not a Foodbuzz featured publisher, I can’t attend the actual event (sad) but I am very excited to see some of my favorite bloggers while they are in town! This will be my first blogger meet-up and I can’t wait to get to know these wonderful women in person, whom I already have the pleasure of knowing via our blogs.

2. Loft Event!

As a Loft Girl, I sometimes get to hold events for them from time to time and this month, I’m hosting an event in the brand new San Francisco store. Located in Embarcadero 4, this new LOFT store is going to be better than ever! The evening will be an amazing night full of shopping, cocktails and appetizers… and what could be better than that?! And don’t worry, I’ll post more details as the night gets closer!

3. Red Cup Season!

Excited about red cups even in Scotland!

Today officially marked Red Cup Season at Starbucks… which, if you ask me, should be considered a holiday. There is just something about drinking a hot beverage from a red cup that makes it feel like the holidays are here. I’ve heard rumors that they might be offering sugar free peppermind syrup this year which would basically make me more of a Starbucks devotee than I already am. Although I usually stick with Americanos, I see a Nonfat Latte with 1 pump of peppermint in my future! Yum!

4. Fall/Winter Clothes!

Elle's Fall Trend report

Now that summer is winding down in San Francisco, I’ve got my eye on coats and boots galore. Although it doesn’t get that cold here, I feel the need to dress for the occasion. I’ve been lusting after a certain pair of boots for quite sometime and now that Fall is here, I think it’s time to take the plunge! I’m also excited to stock up on some cute sweater dresses and the perfect cape!

5. Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC 2 years ago...

Christmas may be my favorite holiday, but Thanksgiving is a close second. Any excuse to spend time with my family is a winner in my book and Thanksgiving is the perfect excuse. Throw in lots of delicious special holiday foods? Well, I’m sold. I’m especially excited about stuffing- a food that I used to avoid, but now can’t seem to get enough of. My brother’s favorite is my Grandma’s corn casserole recipe that I make… and he’s already requested it!

Questions:

-What November events are you excited about?

-What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Fave 5 Friday

Hi Lovelies! Happy, happy Friday! I hope that you all had a great week and have an amazing weekend planned! Fave Fridays are back this week, so here we go!

1. Live Like a Loft Girl Campaign

Remember when I went to New York a few weeks ago? I was actually there to shoot the Live Like a Loft Girl campaign! I’m so honored to be a Loft Girl and love representing such an incredible brand! The photo shoot was so much fun but I had no idea when the campaign was coming out, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw my picture in an email this morning and on the website! If you too love LOFT, you can enter to win to the live like a Loft girl contest!

2. New Shoes from Piperlime!

After exchanging tweets with the Girl In The Pink, we both decided to take the plunge on Piperlime sale and buy the clogs on the right. For both of these pairs of shoes, my grand total was under $40!! I was a little nervous about the fit since they were both final sale items, but turns out they both fit perfectly! I can’t wait to style them very soon!

3. Jamba Juice Cranberry Chocolate Trail Mix!

Last week when I went to see the movie One Day, I wanted something to snack on. Sometimes when I see a movie, I’ll treat myself to a junior popcorn, but that night I was in the mood for something sweet. After bypassing all of the candy and determining that there were no healthy options, I spotted Jamba Juice Cranberry Chocolate Antioxidant mix! I’ve never seen it before, but it’s a mix of cranberries, cashews, chocolate cranberries, dark chocolate bits, cherries, goji berries and pistachios with no artificial flavors or preservatives. It was the perfect sweet snack with some healthy fats for filling power. I will definitely be looking for this again!

4. Whole Foods Gift Card!

I’m sure you all have seen the Whole Foods parking lot video but it cracks me up every time! After I won a Whole Foods gift card giveaway from Julie at Peanut Butter Finger’s dentist, the card has been burning a hole in my pocket purse. I’ve been saving it for when I really needed some special items and now am excited to go exploring this weekend! I’ve now added coconut flour, goji berries (after loving them in that Jamba mix) and much, much more to my list of things to buy! I love Whole Foods, but since it can turn into Whole Paycheck fairly quickly, I usually try to stick with TJs for regular grocery shopping so this will be a special treat!

5. Big Top Cupcake!

This weekend, I’m going to make my first Big Top Cupcake! My parents are hosting a family member’s going away party this weekend, so I’m making dessert… in the form of a giant cupcake! I bought the cake mix tonight (hey, I’m a busy girl and don’t have time to make it from scratch) and am debating my frosting options. Literally, looking at the cans of frosting in the aisle made me salivate, just thinking about that sweet, creamy icing. Definitely a case of something so bad, being so, so good!

Questions:

-Do you have any recent purchases to share or any items that you have your eye on?

-What are your favorite items to get from Whole Foods?

-Have you ever made a giant cupcake cake? Any tips?? What foods make you salivate just thinking about them?
