What to Wear Wednesday: LOFT Edition + GIVEAWAY

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a great week and have some fun plans for the upcoming holiday weekend. I’m excited to spend some time with my friends and family and have another little wine trip planned. It is a little bittersweet though because it means the end to my office’s summer Fridays, where we work half-days! Since I haven’t taken a vacation, that has signified summer, so it will be missed. But hopefully, in San Francisco, summer is just beginning! Summers are always hard in the city because as everyone else is buying cute dresses and shorts, we are bundling in coats and boots, and now as everyone is looking towards fall clothes, we are finally ready to bust out our summer clothes. But despite this odd situation, I am very excited for fall clothes- in my opinion, the best season for style.

As I mentioned, as a LOFT girl, I had the opportunity to preview and style some items from the new collection on Saturday. We did a little mini photo shoot on the Embarcadero modeling their new bold pants. You can see the images on the LOFT Facebook page, but I thought I’d share a few others here as well!

I also modeled another gorgeous outfit, but I’m waiting to share that one with you for a bit since I plan to wear the same pants for Fashion’s Night Out next week and hope to debut it then! The Secret’s Out

Hi lovelies!! Happy Friday! I hope that you have all had a wonderful week and are looking forward to the weekend ahead! I know that I am!

Do you remember when I went to New York and told you guys that I couldn’t yet reveal the purpose of my trip? Well despite staying at the Empire Hotel, I wasn’t there for a walk-on role with Gossip Girl (though that would have been awesome!) Instead, I was there for an even more amazing purpose- a photo shoot for LOFT! If you recall, I did one for their Live Like a Loft Girl promotion before, but this shoot was for their new denim guide! I’m so honored and lucky to be a LOFT Girl and featured in this campaign so I wanted to share it with you all!

(Click on the photos below and they will take you to them live on the site!)

I can't link to this image, but if you'd like to check out my bio just click one of the other images and then go to "Meet Our Loft Girls"

If you haven’t yet tried LOFT denim, I can’t recommend it enough. I bought my first pair of LOFT jeans a few years ago and have been buying it ever since! It’s affordable (unlike the designer denim I used to buy), comes in so many different washes and the fit is amazing!

Questions:

-Tell me about your favorite pair of jeans! What makes them perfect?

Relationship Status: It’s Complicated

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a great weekend! I had an absolutely AMAZING one at the National Ice Skating Championships. It was truly an incredible experience and I am now officially an ice skating groupie. All weekend I battled a headache but Sunday night it took an ugly turn into a migraine on Monday. Luckily, after a day of rest and migraine meds I’m feeling much better.

But now on to other matters… you see, I have a bit of complicated relationship on my hands. There are some relationships in life where the attraction is instantaneous and others that require additional thought. And my relationship with horizontal stripes is the latter. For years I found myself attracted to horizontal stripes clothing, while also being afraid that it would be unflattering. Then one day, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot.. and realized that I liked what I saw! But now that we’re official (it’s not love… yet) I’ve learned a few things along the way.

1. Stripes are an ideal layering piece!

Hat: Nordstrom, Vest: LOFT, Shirt: H&M

Although the Breton striped shirt looks so classic on its own, I recently have been looking at stripes as a great layering piece, almost like a neutral. They transition seamlessly between seasons and look as great with a fur vest as a floral scarf as a statement necklace. Plus, all of these items transform the look from your basic striped shirt into something a little more special.

2. Play with proportion!

Sweater: Nordstrom, Pants: GAP

I fell in love with this striped, open-knit sweater the moment I saw it and knew it would be perfect for my trip to San Diego. But horizontal stripes on an oversize sweater with dolman sleeves? Yikes, right? Wrong! Instead of being scared by the volume of the sweater, I wore tight black pants and black boots. When dealing with a blousy or loose striped item, wearing a fitted top or bottom balances you out.

3. Use stripes to colorblock!

All items are LOFT

At my recent LOFT event, I decided to work some stripes into my outfit as a way to colorblock. Thick stripes like the ones I’m wearing are already a great example of colorblocking, so I added a bright pink berry sweater to make them pop. Colorful stripes are also a great way to transition to spring-ier clothes while still experiencing winter weather!

As you can see, I’m coming around to stripes and I think our relationship is blossoming. But one relationship that isn’t in any danger? My love affair with San Francisco:

GGG Restaurant Review: Txoko

Hi lovelies! I’m so excited to share that I got to visit the new LOFT store last night and it is gorgeous! Tomorrow is going to be so much fun and I hope that some of you can join me for my party at the San Francisco store! If you’d like to come, please rsvp at: loftgirlevents.com and please be sure to come up and introduce yourself!

Last week, my friend Katie and I decided to check out Txoko, a new-ish restaurant in North Beach in San Francisco. Though North Beach is the Italian district, I have found that some of my favorite restaurants there are the non-Italian ones, so when I heard about Txoko, a Basque restaurant, I knew I had to try it.

After finally finding the restaurant (scaffolding and the fact that it was nestled between some less than nice establishments made it hard to find) we settled in and were excited to spend the evening eating good food and catching up.

The menu was divided in 3 sections- small bites (1-2 bites), small plates (appetizer portion) and big plates. I have to admit that the menu was a little out there for me but since I’m working on trying new foods, I looked at as a growing experience. Plus, throw in a glass of wine and a girlfriend and I’m game! :)

We started with the Txiki cheese plate that was served with a roasted carrot salad, frisee and pine nuts. The cheese was similar in texture to my favorite Manchengo, but with a slightly less strong flavor. It was delicious on warm crusty bread and my only complaint was that there wasn’t more!

We then moved on to small bites and had the Wood Oven Roasted Piquillo Peppers with chevre, roasted garlic and marinated piquillo peppers, Local Squid A La Plancha with black olive, potatoes, pimenton, spinach and the Mushroom Empanada with Hen of the Woods (a mushroom), Chanterelle, Sweet Onions, Manchego and Rosemary. I enjoyed all three dishes (even the squid!) but the standout was by far the mushroom empanada in a flaky crust with the most delicious mushroom filling.

Then it was onto the small plates! Although the above were delicious, we both were ready for some bigger bites! We selected the Radicchio A La Plancha with persimmon, ricotta, spinach, almonds and sherry vinaigrette. I had no idea that I even liked pomegranate seeds or persimmons until I tasted this salad but I am now a fan of both! It was refreshing while still being fall-like and the perfect main course.

And then because the waitress informed us that we needed at least one filling dish, we went for the Caulifower Arroz with shishito peppers, Hen of the Woods and Chanterelles. Oh my gosh, was this amazing! It had a risotto like consistency and was creamy but not overpowering…. and I couldn’t even taste the caulifower!

All in all, the food was great but the company was what made the meal! I really enjoyed Txoko, but with so many great restaurants to try in SF, it’s hard to go back to the same one twice! As you can tell, we went mostly Vegetarian for our meal, but if you are a meat eater/more adventurous, there are many more options! I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, different kind of meal and a new experience!
