My Best Friend

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend! I spent this weekend celebrating my best friend– my Mommy. I feel so completely blessed and honored to not only have such an amazing mom but to get to call her my friend as well. She is the woman who instantly puts everyone at ease and the woman that everyone wants to open up to, even if it’s their first time meeting her. She really is that good of a listener and she is also incredibly wise, offering wonderful advice. She is my biggest cheerleader and fan, always making me feel good no matter how small the accomplishment. She is an amazing woman of God who truly has lived her life listening to God’s call. She is smart and funny and truly the most incredible woman I know. And somehow, I’m lucky enough to be her daughter. She has had the most profound impact on my life and I don’t know what I would ever do without her. Everything is just better when she’s around and I love spending time together.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of us (that I had on my computer!)

Isn’t she absolutely beautiful and so stylish? I’m also lucky to have some very good genes! :)

Questions:

-Tell me about your weekend!

-Did you do anything special for Mother’s Day?

Viva

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a great week and are having a wonderful Friday so far. I just finished packing (and it’s already past midnight) so today’s post is going to be short.

Today I’m taking off for a weekend in, you guessed it Vegas! But this trip will look less like this…

And more like this…

(And yes, the above is one of our photo shoot pictures… more to come soon!)

That’s right, this weekend is my Grandma’s 87th birthday! We are surprising her and taking her to Vegas for the weekend. Not only has she not been on a plane in years, but she’s never been to Vegas. We’re going to take her on a little tour around the world (Venice, Paris, New York) and then surprise her again and take her to see the Donny and Marie show. I’m so excited to experience Vegas with my Grandma and family. It is going to be so much fun and something we’ve been planning for a very long time! I’ll be sure to post a full recap of the trip and our delicious eats next week!

Have an amazing weekend!

Questions:

-Have you been to Vegas? Any favorite restaurants/activities?

Wordless Weekend

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend! My Friday kicked off the weekend to a great start when I had the opportunity to have lunch with one of my best friends from high school. We haven’t seen each other in way too long and it was fabulous to catch up. Then after work I headed to Santa Cruz with my mom to go to a Church Women’s Retreat. It was completely relaxing and restorative and we had a wonderful time. Now it’s back to reality and tonight I’m going to another ballet class… can’t wait!

Questions:

-Have you been to a retreat or to camp?

-What was your weekend like?

A Springtime Afternoon Tea

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had an amazing weekend and were able to stay out of the rain or enjoy the sun! Sorry I was a little mia last week- it was just one of those weeks but I fully intend on making up for it this week!

This weekend I had the privilege of attending an afternoon tea that was put on by my mom’s best friend. If you remember, I love going to tea and have been going with my mom, her best friend and her daughter since I was a little girl. Back then, I would wear my prettiest, frilliest dress (and I’m sure my mom would make me wear those horrible itchy lace tights) to afternoon tea. I always enjoyed going but being the picky eater that I was, I didn’t drink the tea nor eat the food.  Luckily though days are far behind me and I enjoyed every morsel this time around.

Aren’t the tables so pretty? My mom has always loved setting the perfect table and her best friend is the same way. I love a beautifully set table and it makes enjoying afternoon tea all the more fun! As does dressing up! I count Afternoon tea as the perfect time to wear my pearls (the necklace I’m wearing below my best friend gave me on my 13th birthday) and I got this BCBG Generation dress for the event! It’s one of those dresses that I got a great deal on and I know that I’ll get a lot of wear out of… aka a great purchase!

Having tea together since we were little girls

If you look closely, you can see I took my 5-inch heels off for the picture with my Grandma!

And now onto the main event… the food! Everything was absolutely delicious but as always, I enjoyed the scones the best! She served two different types but the White Chocolate Lavender was incredible with clotted cream and jam! Oh and I had 3 different teas over the course of the afternoon- Vanilla, Coconut Cocoa and my favorite Chocolate Peppermint! All were perfect with the delicious food!

All in all it was an absolutely fabulous day and I had such a wonderful time with family and friends. I couldn’t ask for a better weekend! Sunday included a relaxing day, an amazing Church service, a dinner of roasted veggies and quinoa and a screening of one of my favorite movies– Young Victoria.

Questions:

-What did you do this weekend? Did you celebrate St. Patrick’s day?

-Are you more of a coffee/tea person? What flavors do you like best?

-What item on the menu looks best to you?

A Merry Little Christmas

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday! For those of you who celebrate it, can you believe that Christmas is already over? I went to to the Christmas music radio station today and was shocked to find that the Christmas music is long gone. All traces of Christmas have now been taken down in my parents house too as we all move on towards the new year. But before I get too far ahead of myself, here’s a little of what my Christmas looked like…

Christmas Eve Service at Church

Gorgeous Christmas tree

Cooking in the kitchen

Apparently only 2 of us got the being silly memo

Christmas Yule Log
All in All, it was a wonderful holiday and I felt so blessed to spend such a special time with my family. My favorite part was when we were all sitting around opening gifts, eating my Grandmas Christmas cookies and laughing. I loved every minute of it!

Question:

What was the best part of your holiday?

25 Questions: Holiday Style

Hi lovelies! I hope that all had a wonderful weekend! I can’t believe that Christmas is this week! Somehow, December has gone by in a flash and I feel like I’m not prepared! But despite the fact that my Christmas presents aren’t picked out yet and I’m a little behind, I think that it’s really important to remember that the holidays aren’t really about all of that stuff- they are about spending time with friends and family… and I plan on doing plenty of that!

I’ve been seeing the the holiday questions survey floating around the blog world and I just couldn’t resist joining in on the fun.

  1. Eggnog or Hot Chocolate?

Definitely hot chocolate! Due to my egg aversion, I’ve always been a little weary of eggnog, so I’ve never actually tried it! But hot chocolate and I have a long standing relationship. As a kid, I would drink it all the time and somehow found a way to spill every cup all over my clothes. My poor mom used to have to always have  change of clothes with her just so I could drink my hot chocolate! I still enjoy the stuff and don’t spill… most of the time.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

To be honest, I don’t really remember! I think that Santa wrapped them but my favorite Santa present was the bedroom set for my American Girl Doll Samantha.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?

Last year's beautiful tree!

Growing up we always had two trees- one flocked one with white lights and fancy ornaments and a second tree with colored lights and family ornaments. Now days, we do one with white lights!

4. Do you hang mistletoe?

No- I think we’ve hung it in the past, but it’s not a big tradition.

5. When do you hang your decorations up?

Usually sometime within December, usually on a weekend that we have free!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

Ohh I’m really bad at picking favorites, but mashed potatoes are always high up on my list!

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?

I’m lucky to say that I have so many fond Christmas memories and my parents always made everything really special.

8. What’s on your Christmas wish list?

My very pretty new boots!!

I actually didn’t make a wish list this year so everything will be a surprise! But I’m so blessed already that there is nothing that I really need! I did just receive an early Christmas present of a pair of boots that I’ve been coveting so that was pretty exciting!

9. Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?

Yes! It’s always been our tradition to open gifts on Christmas Eve after we’ve been to Church and had dinner. When we open our gifts we do them one at a time too usually starting with the youngest giving a gift to someone else and then that person gives a gift to another person. I love that tradition and look forward to it every year.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

Decorating the tree is always a production and one of my favorite traditions. First we put the lights up and then spend hours going through all the ornaments, talking about the special memories behind them. I love learning different stories each year about the various ornaments and spending time with the family.

11. Snow? Love it or dread it?

Living in the bay area, I don’t have much snow interaction besides the fake snow that was dropped at that party I attended last night. In terms of real snow though, I think it looks very pretty but would rather enjoy it once in a while from inside a warm house.

12. Real tree or fake tree?

Real tree all the way– I love everything about it. I’m also very particular about the shape of the tree, I like it to have the perfect Christmas tree shape and each year, declare that year’s tree more beautiful than the last.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift?

I’ve had some great gifts over the years, but I remember being especially excited to receive a Furby. It was the last gift under the tree and I remember being so excited and surprised. Unfortunately, those things were creepy and I grew tired of it soon when it would wake me up in the middle of the night.

14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?

Spending time with my family. I think that as I get older this becomes even more important to me, as I think that is really the most special time about the holidays and I love creating memories that we will never forget.

15. What is your favorite holiday dessert?

Well, it’s a toss up. My Grandma makes an incredible variety of Christmas cookies every year that are absolutely delicious! Every year, we also order a Yule Log from Baskin Robbins. Chocolate cake swirled with peppermint and mint chip ice creams, topped with chocolate fudge frosting… what’s not to like?!

16. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?

Yes, we all get up and have some sort of delicious breakfast together. In the past, my brothers and I would wake up bright and early, then in our teens, we all slept in and now we meet somewhere in the middle.

17. What tops your tree?

NYC Rockefeller Tree Topper

In years past, it was an angel but now we have a minature version of the above that is so beautiful! It’s always the perfect finishing touch on the tree.

18. Do you prefer giving or receiving?

Giving! There really is nothing better than knowing that you brought a smile to someone’s face.

19. What is your favorite Christmas song?

Ohh, there are so many that I love, but my all time favorite is the Love Actually version of “All I Want for Christmas.” (Kristine’s fave too!) I also love Glee’s version of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”

20. Candy canes, yuck or yum?

I’m not really into candy canes- I’m more of a chocolate girl but add crushed peppermints to chocolate and you have a winning combo!

21. Favorite Christmas movie?

Love Actually and The Holiday top my list, but I’m also slightly (or not so slightly) addicted to Lifetime and Hallmark Channel movies. In fact, I’m currently watching one while writing this… Lifetime’s Christmas Angel and I have to admit, it’s pretty cute.

22. What do you leave for Santa?

Some of my Grandma’s famous cookies and some non-fat milk… Santa is a lucky man! Oh, and a note and sometimes some carrots for his reindeer.

23. What is your favorite tradition?

Last year's Gingerbread Mansion!

Ohh we have so many that I love, but one of my favorites is making a Gingerbread house with my Daddy Jeff. We always have such a fun time constructing it and I love the opportunity to spend time just the two of us.

24. Do you prefer to shop online or at the mall?

I actually prefer to shop in the mall and in the stores- there’s something so festive about it and I do love any excuse to shop. But this year, things have been so busy that shopping online has been a little more my style.

25. Christmas letter or Christmas card?

Christmas card, though I can’t say I’ve ever sent one! I’m not the best at sending letters to people, but I do love receiving them!

Questions:

Answer any of the above!

November Happenings

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful Halloween! Can you guys believe that it is already November? Where has the time gone?! October has been kind of a crazy month in GGG land… there have been some highs and lows and my blog has kind of gotten pushed aside. I’m really hoping that this all changes in November and in honor of a new month and season (it’s starting to feel like Fall in SF) I thought I’d do a list of things that I’m excited about in November!

1. Foodbuzz is coming to SF!

This weekend, bloggers are taking over my city for Foodbuzz fest! Since I’m not a Foodbuzz featured publisher, I can’t attend the actual event (sad) but I am very excited to see some of my favorite bloggers while they are in town! This will be my first blogger meet-up and I can’t wait to get to know these wonderful women in person, whom I already have the pleasure of knowing via our blogs.

2. Loft Event!

As a Loft Girl, I sometimes get to hold events for them from time to time and this month, I’m hosting an event in the brand new San Francisco store. Located in Embarcadero 4, this new LOFT store is going to be better than ever! The evening will be an amazing night full of shopping, cocktails and appetizers… and what could be better than that?! And don’t worry, I’ll post more details as the night gets closer!

3. Red Cup Season!

Excited about red cups even in Scotland!

Today officially marked Red Cup Season at Starbucks… which, if you ask me, should be considered a holiday. There is just something about drinking a hot beverage from a red cup that makes it feel like the holidays are here. I’ve heard rumors that they might be offering sugar free peppermind syrup this year which would basically make me more of a Starbucks devotee than I already am. Although I usually stick with Americanos, I see a Nonfat Latte with 1 pump of peppermint in my future! Yum!

4. Fall/Winter Clothes!

Elle's Fall Trend report

Now that summer is winding down in San Francisco, I’ve got my eye on coats and boots galore. Although it doesn’t get that cold here, I feel the need to dress for the occasion. I’ve been lusting after a certain pair of boots for quite sometime and now that Fall is here, I think it’s time to take the plunge! I’m also excited to stock up on some cute sweater dresses and the perfect cape!

5. Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC 2 years ago...

Christmas may be my favorite holiday, but Thanksgiving is a close second. Any excuse to spend time with my family is a winner in my book and Thanksgiving is the perfect excuse. Throw in lots of delicious special holiday foods? Well, I’m sold. I’m especially excited about stuffing- a food that I used to avoid, but now can’t seem to get enough of. My brother’s favorite is my Grandma’s corn casserole recipe that I make… and he’s already requested it!

Questions:

-What November events are you excited about?

-What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food?
