My Latest Obsession

Hi lovelies! I hope that you are all having a fabulous week so far! I’m so happy that it’s Thursday and the weekend is in sight! I have some fun weekend plans that I’m looking forward to including seeing Jersey Boys with some lovely DGs, a fun brunch on Saturday and lunch and crafting on Sunday! It should be a great weekend and like always, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I feel well! I’ve been meaning to do a foodie finds post lately, but each time I go to write one, I realize that I can’t do my list without including X or Y. But today I’m leaving all that behind because I’m only going to talk to you about one thing. But it’s my very favorite thing. So here’s my confession:

I’m a kale chip addict.

I used to make kale chips years ago before they were popular and they never really turned out right. They ended up burnt, slightly slimy and way too salty. For years, I didn’t touch another kale chip due to my preconceived notions that they would all taste that way. That was until last year, and I noticed kale chips in all my favorite grocery stores and I decided to give them a try. Oh my goodness, I had been missing out. These kale chips are light, crispy and crunchy with the most amazing flavor. And they are seriously addicting. Given that they come in resealable bags, I’m guessing that the companies expect you to eat them on multiple occasions. But not me. That bag is gone in one sitting. I’ve tried a bunch of different kinds, but my favorites are Kale Joy and Kale Krunch.

Don't even try and pry my hand away

Don’t even try and pry my hand away

Both of these products are completely natural, gluten-free and vegan making them a fantastic healthy snack. Plus the coating on both brands contains nuts or seeds, which give them an added protein punch- Kale Joy Original has 6 g of protein per serving! I’m partial to the original flavors of both of them but I’m sure the others are fantastic too. Unfortunately, they aren’t cheap ($6 a bag) but they are worth every penny! At some point I might try my hand at making my own kale chips again, but in the meantime, I’ll be the girl hoarding bags of kale chips at the grocery store.

A Delicious Discovery

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and if you were in the Bay Area were able to stay dry yesterday. Despite living in often cloudy San Francisco, I love the sun so when June started off with rain it came as an unwelcome surprise. Luckily, when I got off work I took a slightly different route than usual and stumbled upon on something pretty amazing…

Creme brulee is one of my all-time favorite desserts so I was so excited to see this little cart on the street. To be honest, I didn’t plan on partaking. I just went over to check it out. Well, then I started reading the flavors and decided that what kind of blogger would I be if I didn’t investigate further. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Faced with so many delicious options I had a very difficult time deciding. I love a classic creme brulee (though I had my all time favorite in Paris years ago, so it might be difficult to compete), lavender sounded interesting, but let’s fact it- I was drawn to the chocolate options. I loved the different add-ons the S’mores included but when it came down to it, I had to go with the Yes, Please! Any dessert that immediately tells me that it is indeed as good as it sounds is a winner in my book.

The verdict?

It really was as good as it sounds. They torch the top right after you order so it’s hot and sizzling and has that perfect crunch. There is nothing worse in creme brulee then a top that’s not crunchy, that’s the best part! The flavor was sweet and nutty without being overpowering and there were chunks of strawberries in the little ramekin. It also was the perfect, satisfying size. My only complaint was that only the top was warm and the rest of the custard was cold. I understand this is because they need to keep them fresh on the street, but I wished it would have been a little more room-temperature. (I also feel this way about cupcakes- when they come out of a refrigerated case the cake feels dry and the frosting dense.)

All in all, I will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled out the Creme Brulee Cart in the future. If you are in the Bay Area and want to try some delicious creme brulee too, follow them on twitter to see where the cart is parked!

Also, I’d like to give a special birthday shoutout to my sorority big and best friend, Blaire. I miss you so much B and wish we were together celebrating your birthday like last year.

Foodie Finds

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all have had a nice week and are ready for the weekend! It’s a three-day weekend for me (whoohoo!) and I think it is a four-day weekend for some of you lucky ducks out there! I hope that you all have some great stuff planned- I’m actually going into this weekend without too many set plans and am excited to just see where it takes me.

Besides my recent forays into cooking, I’ve been eating some great pre-made stuff lately too! It’s been a very long time since I did foodie finds but it’s a chance to feature some of my new favorite products- and hopefully ones that will soon be yours too!

Falafel Chips

I first discovered Falafel Chips when I was visiting my brother in Dallas at the best grocery store ever, Central Market. I thought they were absolutely delicious, flavorful gluten-free snack but when I came back to SF, I could not find falafel chips anywhere! Then, a few weeks ago when reading my Trader Joe’s Fearless Flyer (please say I’m not the only one who reads these cover to cover) I spotted them as a new item. I promptly picked them up and have been hooked ever since. These are a little spicier than the ones I had before, but they are perfect in Trader Joe’s tomato basil hummus.

La Croix Sparkling Water

I love carbonated drinks and in the past have had a bad Diet Coke habit. When I tried to cut Diet Coke out, I found that what I craved the most wasn’t the taste but the carbonation. So I started drinking sparkling water and my absolute favorite is La Croix! It’s free of calories, sweetener and sodium and is just pure sparkling water. It comes in a variety of flavors but my favorites are berry and lime. It comes in a can (which also makes it feel more like soda) and it tastes crisp and bubbly!

Trader Joe’s Gourmet Chicken Meatballs

I’ve never really liked meatballs. They are usually made of pork (which I don’t eat) or beef, which I rarely eat so I’ve always kind of stayed away. Well the other day when I spotted these at Trader Joe’s they just sounded different from things that I usually eat. These are made from chicken and combined with some of my favorite things– tomato, basil and provolone. They come fully cooked and only need to be heated in the microwave for a few seconds. I dipped mine (don’t worry- the above was for 3 people!) into tomato-basil sauce and they were so, so good! Full of flavor and packed with protein, I will definitely be buying these again!

Nature’s Habit Granola

I consider myself somewhat of a granola connoisseur (hint: why I’m Ms. GGGranola) and I have a new granola love. Nature’s Habit granola is made in Napa (my neighbor!) and is one of the best granolas that I’ve tried to date! It’s not just the oats like most granolas, rather, it’s incredibly crunchy and full of clusters. Plus, you get nuts in almost every bite which is always a selling point to me. I’ve tried both the Granola with Almonds and Pecans and the Granola with Cherries and Cocoa and both were incredible! Oh and best of all, I found this gem at Walgreens of all places! Who knew?!

And what else do I love? Luna bars! Enter to win a box here!
