What to Wear Wednesday: Joie SF Opening

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a fantastic week so far. Mine has been extra busy and I’ve packed so much into the past two days that I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around that it’s only Wednesday. It definitely feels like it should be Thursday by now! I’m also really excited for the weekend because I will be attending the Gluten and Allergy Free Expo! There is going to be a huge vendor fair with all gluten-free vendors (and many that are free of the top 8 allergens) and lifestyle and cooking classes! It’s going to be great! Obviously expect a full recap post on it!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments and tweets regarding my More Than a Number post the other day! I sometimes shy away from posting topics that are more serious in nature (I try to keep it fun and light on GGG) but I always feel so rewarded for opening up about the tough topics. I think being in the blogging world, we do have somewhat of a responsibility to address important issues like this, and hopefully these conversations can start to change the selective viewpoint that all women should be a certain size.

In other news, last night I had the opportunity to attend the Joie store opening on Fillmore street in San Francisco. I love the Joie brand and if you aren’t familiar with it, they are known for their gorgeous flowy silk shirts and dresses. Everything is made impeccably and I found myself wanting absolutely everything in the store. I often find myself too preoccupied with chatting at these events to actually shop, but I couldn’t resist last night. I tried on a few items and absolutely fell in love with the most perfect black lace dress. Fingers crossed it will find a new home in my closet very soon. It was such a fun event and I had a wonderful time checking out the store with my very good friend Ashley. She happens to live close to the Joie store so I see more shopping dates in our future ;)

Scenes from the Weekend

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had an absolutely wonderful weekend! It was pouring rain in the city this weekend but it seemed like things worked out perfectly and it always cleared up during times when I was out and about! Love when that happens! I had a full weekend that was the perfect combo of relaxing and fun.

-Daddy Jeff’s Birthday

It was Daddy Jeff’s birthday this weekend so we went out to celebrate on Friday night! It was so great to have an opportunity to celebrate Daddy Jeff because he really is the most incredible, most compassionate, sweetest dad! I am so, so lucky to have him in my life!

-Gluten-Free/Vegan Pumpkin-Almond Butter Muffins!

Late Friday night I did a little baking so I could bring something special to brunch the next day. In addition to the gluten and dairy, my doctor’s have a few other things I can’t have so I knew it was best to make something out of the ingredients I could! I made a version of Chelsey’s “Pumpkin Surprise Muffins” but substituted almond butter for peanut butter and stevia for the sugar. I also added a little almond milk. Mine didn’t turn out quite as pretty as hers, but they sure tasted delicious!

-Book Club Brunch

For the Girl’s Book club that I’m in, we usually have our meetings on Friday nights. This time our lovely host Biz decided to do things a little different and we did Brunch instead! It was so fun gathering together and getting to chat with all my friends over a delicious brunch. Oh and we talked about the book too! We read Gone Girl this month and it was so good! I’ll be sure to post a review soon!

-The Most Exciting Surprise!

A huge highlight of my weekend was when my parents brought home a Vitamix! I cannot even tell you excited I was but will share that I may have been dancing around the kitchen squealing “we got a Vitamix!” I have wanted one so badly for the past two years and cannot wait to start using it. Smoothies, soups, pesto, nut butter, dairy free ice cream? I mean really the possibilities are endless!

-Starting the Christmas Season off right

Yesterday I went to see the San Francisco Choral Artists perform their Christmas concert and it was just beautiful. They all had such powerful voices and the notes they could hit was awe-inspiring! One of my favorite songs was actually done without words and just with sounds which seems a little odd but was really cool! It was a great night!

Questions:

-What did you do this weekend?

-Any recipes I must make using my new Vitamix??

Happy Halloween

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all are having a great week so far! I’m sorry that I’ve been a little mia lately- despite numerous calls to Xfinity and visits, my internet at home has still been a little wonky. Hopefully I can get it resolved shortly and be back with you all more regularly!

I can’t believe today is actually Halloween! It will be a low key day- work, handing out candy with the fam (which I’m really excited about!) and perhaps some gluten-free/dairy-free pizza for a treat! In San Francisco today things are a little crazy though because of the Giants parade! (In case you don’t follow baseball- the SF Giants won the World Series!) So everyone from surrounding areas is coming into the city today to celebrate our city and team! It just so happens that the team colors are black and orange so it does seem fitting for Halloween!

While I won’t be dressing up today, I did dress up this weekend, and not in any of these costumes. Instead, a group of us dressed up as the Disney princesses and another group of my friends dressed up as Rock-Paper-Scissors which was too cute!  My friend Katie hosted an amazing party complete with a dj! It was such a wonderful night and I loved bringing in Halloween a few days early with all my friends!

I hope you all have a wonderful, safe Halloween! Enjoy the time with your friends and family and make sure to treat yourselves! I will certainly be having some fun size peanut m&ms which thankfully are gluten-free! To see what candies are gluten-free, check out this great list! I’m also planning on making a delicious treat tonight that I’ll be sure to share the recipe with you soon!

Funfetti and The Final Rose

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was full of so many fun things with great friends that it’s going to take me a couple of days to fill you in. But rather than start from the beginning, I want to chat about Sunday night. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it, but a group of my friends and I have a Bachelorette bracket. My team name was Em & Em, but unfortunately, thanks to Charlie getting sent home very early, I didn’t do so well.

But who cares about the results of a bracket when you have good friends, good food, and a fantastic season finale to watch, right? We all made a different dish to bring to the party and after seeing this recipe on Pinterest, I knew it would be perfect, especially because it only called for these 3 ingredients…

These combine to make the ever popular, Healthy Funfetti Dip! This recipe is so incredibly easy to make and is a definite crowd pleaser. Since the recipe basically consists of stirring the above together, be sure to note that it needs to be refrigerated for at least 3 hours for the flavors to combine and if you eat it right away, it lacks the true cake flavor that develops later. Also, unless you are taking this to a large party (we had about 10 people) I’d suggest halving the recipe, as this makes a *huge* bowl.

As you can see, our hostesses went all out and had red roses scattered around the apartment, candles lit, and even Jef and Arie napkins! Also, the above is only part of the dessert table as cupcakes and special yogurt waffle cones were later added! In addition to all the sweet treats, we had my friend Ashley’s famous baked brie (maybe I’ll get her to guest post and share!), quinoa stuffed peppers, spinach artichoke dip, snap pea and bean dill salad and more! Needless to say, along with our wine we were all sufficiently stuffed. But that didn’t stop us from squealing as we watched the episode together and gasping when Emily said goodbye to Arie. An Indy car driver, Arie was my favorite from the beginning and their chemistry was undeniable, but when it came to who was a better fit for Emily, I did have to agree that Jef was the right choice.

And with that another season of the Bachelor franchise is over! Bachelor Pad started last night and while I’m sure that I’ll inevitably watch it, it won’t be nearly as much fun as tuning in every week with my family and friends to see who Emily is going to pick.

Questions:

-What’s your favorite food to bring to parties?

-Did you watch the Bachelorette? Were you surprised with Emily’s choice?

Derby Day

Hi lovelies! Thank you all for your sweet comments on my last post- I truly am so lucky! I’m a little behind in updating you on my weekends but I’m finally getting around to posting about Derby Day! My sorority hosted an event at a local restaurant and bar in San Francisco to raise money for a local charity. Beforehand, my lovely friend Biz, who is seriously the hostess with the mostess had a pre-derby, mimosa and grilled cheese party! Rather than tell you about it in words, I’d rather show you in pictures (with captions of course!)

Derby ready in my big hat and pearls!

Mimosa bar with 6 different types of juices and assorted fruit! My favorite was the ruby red grapefruit!

Step 1: Pick your outsides, Step 2: Let’s get cheesy, Step 3: Top it Off, Step 4: Grill it up!
My favorite combo was the rosemary olive-oil sourdough with raclette cheese, apples and pesto! Mmm!

Gorgeous view from Biz’s roof!

Having some serious hat malfunctions due to the wind– at one point it flew onto an adjoining roof but was able to be retrieved thank goodness!

Some of the ladies, ready for the Derby! Biz, the fabulous hostess is to my right!

Mint juleps!

My beautiful friend Ashley with the donation “horse”

The event was so much fun and we had a chance to do some good as well as raise money for such a good cause. I also ended up taking home some money when my horse “I’ll Have Another” won the Derby! I have to admit- I actually missed the race because I was too busy chatting away… a common problem with me and sports. But regardless it was a great day with my girlfriends and I already can’t wait until next year… and am hoping I don’t have to wait that long before we can do another grilled cheese bar, because it was AMAZING.

Questions:

-Did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo or the Derby?

-When was the last time that you dressed up for a theme?

-Do you pay attention during sports?

A Fashionable Crowd

Hi lovelies! Hope that you all had a great Monday and your week is off to a fantastic start! This week is kind of a busy one for me but luckily it’s mixed with fun stuff too. I’m going to see Hunger Games on Wednesday, despite not reading the book. I’ve heard great things about it though, so I think I’ll still enjoy it!

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Alice & Olivia San Francisco store opening. The event was hosted by Blair, one of my favorite fashion bloggers. I had the opportunity to meet her once before during Fashion’s Night Out so I was excited to see her at another event. I love San Francisco fashion events for so many reasons, but one of which is that they are always packed with bloggers. I also got the chance to meet Kelly from Pine to Pacific and she was just as sweet and lovely as she seems on her blog.

My Outfit: Jeans- Aqua (Bloomingdales), Shirt- H&M, Necklace- c/o LOFT

I think San Francisco gets jipped sometimes when compared to New York & Los Angeles and isn’t considered a true “fashion” city. But the street style here is amazing and it truly shines at events. Everyone’s pairings reflect their own personal twists making them anything but cookie cutter. And as if the fashion weren’t enough, the event also boasted Chandon Rose Champagne and cake pops! Two of my favorite things! After mingling and coveting way too many things that I can’t afford, we left before I could do any serious credit card damage!

Questions:

-Have you seen The Hunger Games? Did you read the book?

-How would you describe your personal style?

-Is your city considered a fashionable city?

Chocolate Overload

Hi lovelies! I hope that you all had a fantastic weekend and got to get out and enjoy some sunshine! It was absolutely gorgeous here in San Francisco and in between soaking up the rays, I went to see both The Iron Lady and My Week with Marilyn and both were fantastic. I can really see why Meryl Streep won the Academy Award now and why her make-up artist did too- her aging process was incredible.

And if that all weren’t fun enough, the weekend concluded with a visit to the 5th Annual San Francisco International Chocolate Salon. Referred to as the premier event for artisan, gourmet and premium chocolate, this event boasted over 50 chocolatiers, confectioners, wineries and culinary artisans… oh, and did I mention that they were ALL giving away samples?

Ready to start tasting!

We started our tasting extravaganza by visiting one of my favorite Chocolate companies- Alter Eco SF. A fair trade company that makes a variety of foods, their chocolate is made from Fair Trade pure organic cocoa, unrefined organic cane sugar grown by small-scale farmers and is 100% natural, containing no emulsifiers or artificial additives. Plus, they work with an expert independent Chocolatier in Switzerland- the country that in my opinion has the absolute best chocolate. (I actually went to Switzerland when studying abroad and had an excessive amount of chocolate while I was there too!) All of the flavors I tried were delicious, but my absolute favorite is still the Dark Chocolate Quinoa because I love the crunch.

Another of our favorites were Clarine’s Florentines based in Berkeley! Clarine and her mother started baking these as Christmas cookies and then three years ago decided to turn it into a business. I am so glad they did because these were absolutely fantastic, crisp and crunchy and coated in Guittard dark chocolate. I could have easily eaten many samples (or let’s be serious, full cookies) from this booth and apparently I’m not alone in my thoughts because these little pieces of heaven have won numerous awards at last year’s event.

The event was so fun and pretty amazing that there were chocolate samples as far as the eye could see! We tried some crazy combinations like potato chip chocolate and some very dark chocolates (91%!) and basically everything in between. We also sampled a few “chocolate” wines but ultimately decided that neither of us really care for sweet wines. Luckily, there was a stand selling water so we refueled and sampled our hearts out some more. The event lasted 6 hours but after about an hour both Brittany and I could no longer handle any more chocolate… and I never thought I would feel this way! But it was so rich and we both were getting stomach aches so we ultimately retired to the sunny grass near Fort Mason with some friends as a perfect end to the day.

Questions:

-What’s your favorite kind of chocolate or chocolate combination?

-What’s the most unusual type of chocolate you’ve had?

-Do you like sweet wines?
